Who makes the best western leather horse bridles and why are they the best?
I do not know if there is one bridle that is the absolute best. I think it is a matter of prefference. I like bridles made of harness leather, with reins that are working quality (tougher than show), with small slobber straps. The most important part of the bridle is the bit. This is the part that is going to effect the horse the most. If you are not showing, the best one I have found for almost any horse, is the three piece mouth, with a copper roller (copper and sweet iron keep the horses mouth moist and supple, allowing them to respond to lighter cues). The three piece mouth is very comfortable for the horse, and is very direct as far as pressure cues. It lays flat on the tounge instead of putting pressure on the horses pallet. Therefore when you pull back that is what is communicated to the horse. Not the lips being pulled back and the top of the mouth being pushed forward. You can find the three piece mouth in a snaffle or a shank bit, depending on what your horse is used to. Just remember you get what you pay for. If you buy a cheap bit, it will likely pinch or have seams that scratch the horses tounge. I recomend a bit in the $50 range, unless you can spend more. I would not buy a bit cheaper than that, unless you know what you are looking for as far as quality.
